Ken Mai is a Japanese Butoh artist, choreographer, and teacher from Kyoto but is currently based in Helsinki Finland since 2006.

He studied the unique style of both founders, Kazuo Ohno and Tatsumi Hijikata, and has also studied German expressionist dance, which had a considerable influence on Butoh. His style of performance combines Butoh elements with a background in acting, gymnastics, singing, drums, martial arts and zen buddhism.

Ken Mai has performed solo, choreographed and has also collaborated with acclaimed musicians, sculptors and visual artists in Europe and Japan.
